The public vote for the Ay Up Me Duck Trail in Amber Valley has officially wrapped up — and what a response it’s had.
Nearly 2,000 votes were cast by the public, with an overwhelming wave of positive comments, encouragement and excitement shared across social media. It’s been brilliant to watch the community really get behind the project and the artists.
Following the vote, the selected artists have now been formally commissioned and will soon begin bringing their designs to life on the giant ducks. Each sculpture starts from the same base form, but it’s the artists who give them their personality, story and colour — and this year’s trail is shaping up to be something really special.
One of the things we love most about this process is how it puts the creative decision-making into the hands of the public. It gives the trail a genuine sense of ownership from day one, and the reaction to this year’s vote has shown just how powerful that is.
The ducks will begin appearing across Amber Valley once painting is underway, and we’ll be sharing behind-the-scenes progress as they take shape.
If the public response is anything to go by, this trail is going to be something truly joyful.
