Chelmsford has been buzzing all summer long with the arrival of the Buzz in the City art trail. For weeks, families, friends, and visitors have explored the city streets and green spaces, discovering beautifully designed giant bee sculptures and enjoying the creativity, colour and joy they’ve brought with them.
The trail has been about much more than art. It has been about community spirit, creativity, and, at its heart, supporting Farleigh Hospice, who provide vital care and support for people living with life-limiting illnesses across mid Essex. Every pound raised through this project helps Farleigh continue their incredible work, and that’s something worth celebrating.
As the trail comes to an end, there are two exciting opportunities to say goodbye to the bees – and even take one home with you.
The Farewell Weekend
Before the bees head off to new homes, they will all come together for one final display at Farleigh Hospice’s beautiful gardens.
When: Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 September 2025
Where: Farleigh Hospice, North Court Road, Chelmsford
Tickets: £2.50 per person (under 5s go free)
This is your chance to see all the giant and mini bees together, in one stunning setting. You’ll be able to collect the final app codes, enjoy family activities like colouring, stickers and selfies, and even meet the Chelmsford Beekeepers. There will also be stalls with bee-themed merchandise, refreshments, and raffles to raise even more funds for the hospice.
It promises to be a joyful weekend, full of community spirit and a wonderful way to celebrate everything the trail has achieved.
The Grand Auction – Own Your Bee
For those who have fallen in love with a particular bee sculpture, there’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance to take it home.
On Wednesday 17 September 2025, the bees will go under the hammer at the Buzz in the City Auction, held at Channels Estate. Doors open at 6pm for drinks and canapés, before the bidding begins at 7pm.
Each sculpture is a unique work of art, designed by talented artists and sponsored by local organisations. Bidding will start at £2,500, with every penny raised going directly to Farleigh Hospice. It’s an extraordinary opportunity to own something truly special, while supporting a charity that makes a real difference in our community.
