The workshop is in full swing this week, and it’s one of those brilliant moments where completely different projects are all happening at once.
First up, we’re making arrangements for a poetry trail celebrating women in science. These projects are a lovely reminder that trails don’t always have to be giant creatures — sometimes the quiet, thoughtful installations are just as powerful. This one is shaping up to be really special.
Alongside that, I’m currently painting a giant gonk for Burton’s upcoming illumination weekend, part of the stunning Canvas of Light event by Luxmuralis. This one is all about glow, magic and a bit of winter sparkle — and the studio is currently covered in paint, as you’d expect. https://discovereaststaffordshire.com/whats-on/canvas-of-light-starlight-by-luxmuralis/. You can see Gary the Gonk behind the library from 5-8 on December the 18th, 19th and 20th and its completely free!!!

Meanwhile, following the completion of his army of giant ducks, Jason is deep in the fibreglass stage of some giant pickle pots for the Branston Pickle Pot Trail. https://branstontowncouncil.gov.uk/your-parish-council/branston-pickle-pot-trial/ This is proper workshop wizardry in action — moulds, sanding, layers of glass fibre and a lot of patience. These are going to be absolute crackers once they’re finished and out on the streets.
Behind the scenes, we’re also in early conversations about several exciting trail projects for next year and beyond. Some of them are still very top secret, but let’s just say there are some big ideas brewing.
As always, it’s a mix of paint, planning, fibreglass, phone calls, sketches, spreadsheets and a lot of coffee. Just how we like it.
