The Ducks Have Landed!

Over the past two very damp days, our Ay Up Me Duck sculptures have been carefully installed across Amber Valley. It was, quite literally, nice weather for ducks – less so for the install team – but rain or shine, the trail is now in place and ready to go live this Saturday, Valentine’s Day of all days.

There’s something rather fitting about launching a community art trail on Valentine’s Day. This project has been built on love from the very start – love for place, for creativity, for local stories, and for the small moments of joy that public art can bring to everyday life. On Saturday, these ducks stop being ‘a project’ and start being part of the landscape, waiting for people to waddle out, discover them, photograph them, name them, laugh at them and argue over favourites.

Installing a trail is always a team effort, but this one really deserves a moment of appreciation. Huge thanks to the artists who designed and painted these brilliant birds – your creativity, care and patience is what makes the trail special. Each duck brings its own personality, and together they create something far bigger than the sum of their parts.

And a massive thank you to the wonderful team at Amber Valley. Projects like this don’t happen without trust, collaboration and a shared belief in the power of art beyond gallery walls. From planning to permissions to practical support on the ground, it’s been a proper partnership – and we’re so proud to see it come to life.

Lastly, our wonderful, very soggy, install crew. Lads, you did a wonderful job!

So, whether you’re heading out solo, with friends, with family, or on a Valentine’s Day wander with someone you love, the ducks are ready. Maps are at the ready, trainers at the door, and the trail officially begins this Saturday.

We’ll see you out there – hopefully with slightly drier coats.
